Dylan Critchfield-Sales was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD) in 2008 where he worked with Barry Nemett, Sangram Majumdar and Mark Karnes. During the Summer of 2007 he had the opportunity to study in Umbria, Italy at the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture where he continued to work with Barry Nemett as well as Dan Gustin of The Art Institute of Chicago.

In 2009, he was the recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields grant. In the spring of 2011, he completed his Master of Fine Arts at The Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts at Indiana University. Shortly thereafter, he spent seven months as a studio assistant to the internationally renowned painter, Odd Nerdrum, in Norway and France. In 2011-12 he was the Artist in Residence at the 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, SC. From 2012 - 2017 Dylan taught at the University of South Carolina, the Midlands School of Art and several other small venues in Columbia, SC.

In 2016 and 2018 he received his second and third Elizabeth Greenshields grants which enabled him to participate in the Jerusalem Studio School summer program in Civita Castellana, Italy as an Affiliate Faculty member and Artist in Residence in the summer of 2017 for three weeks and the summer of 2019 for ten weeks. Dylan has shown in Baltimore MD, Middletown DE, Pittsburgh PA, Naples FL, Bloomington IN, Columbia, SC and Stavern NO. Currently, Dylan works and teaches in Pittsburgh, PA and Columbia, SC.
